Spirits were high after St Mary’s first win of the season the week before and winning the toss allowed the boys to get stuck straight in to some fielding. A steady start saw an opening stand of 50 before the first wicket in the 17th over. A couple of quick wickets from Manoj halted progress but then allowed a counter from the Old Basing middle order. Regular crys of ‘yeah baby’ from the batsman did nothing to rouse his silent team mates but some impressive hitting left St Marys needing 224 to win. Credit to Was for his first wicket on debut with some impressive bowling too. Several batsmen managed to make good starts with Russ scoring an excellent 50 however the run rate continued to climb and St Marys ended the chase 201 – 8 after 40 overs. A good effort to get over 200 against a decent bowling attack.
