Another heatwave rolled in and after losing the toss surprisingly we were asked to bat first.
Tom and Russ continued their great form this season getting us off to another strong start before Russ succumbed to a good delivery. Woody (another inform batsman) joined Tom at the crease and continued to build on the good start before getting caught trying to push the scoring on. Tom was next out in the final 5 overs with a brilliant 98 in sweltering conditions. Stevie and Prasad finishing the innings with Stevie hitting some classic Stevie monster sixes.
With 2 trees within the boundaries rope and an unusual shaped ground going into our bowling it was hard to know whether we were ahead of the game or not. Within the first 10 overs we knew we were really in a battle after a few tight early overs the boundaries started to flow. A combination of some unusual shots (opening batsman was a table tennis players who batted with his finger on the bat back) and a lighting fast outfield Ashford got off to a flying start both openers passing 50. After the first drinks break we managed to fight back with Alex getting the crucial breakthrough before Stevie picked up a couple important wickets. As we took the game deeper needing another breakthrough we looked to an unlikely hero, Tom taking the pads off to get the important wicket to give us a sniff but unfortunately we couldn’t get the last few wickets as Ashford won with 7 balls left.
Man of the match: Tom Lee, unbelievable 98 in 30+ degrees heat and taking 5-1 with the ball. Wally of the day: Tom Lee for a drop that would have completed the perfect game. Champagne moment: Ty taking a diving catch at short cover
