A new league structure started in 2025 with matches home and away against a smaller number of teams in the league(10). How would it work? I think at the end of the season most would say it has been a success. How did St. Mary’s get on? Well it was mixed for a time promotion looked a possibility with St. Mary’s eventually finishing one place outside of the promotion zone in third place. With a strong squad it was difficult to get a consistent team with many weeks only a handful of players being available from the previous week, only James Buckland (14), Tom Lee (13) and Ali Kanjee (12) managed to get into double figures. The outcome of not being able to consistently field our best 11 or a strong 11 was inconsistency of results winning one match against both the top two teams in the league and then losing against lower teams for example losing twice against AWE Tadley who finished up being relegated along with Crown Taverners. We did have a number of close finishes which in true St. Mary’s style we managed to lose although we eventually won a tight match away to Donnington. With the bat we had a number of outstanding performances. Most notable to Tom Lee who finished top of the league batsmen with 577 runs including one century and a 98 as he scored 577 runs at an average of 44.38 really impressive and consistent scoring. Ty Wilkinson scored an incredible 198 not out in just 92 as he took apart the Crown Taverner’s bowling as he led St. Mary’s to 347 for 3 (not bad on our rubbish pitch). Sam Paulose played two matches for St. Mary’s and he scored a critical 125 not out off 85 balls in what turned out to be the final match of the season at Donnington and Russell Hawkins chipped in the a century (103) some memorable batting performances from the season. With the ball Ali Kanjee took most wickets with 16 at an average of 26.94, Stephen Reid came second with 12 at 15.67, and Dan Vickery and Saurabh Lamba both managed 11. Ty Wilkinson, Ali Kanjee and Alex Vile all getting 4 wickets in a match with Alex’s 4 for 26 being the best bowling performance of the season. In the field our superb keeper Tom Lee took 8 wickets with Tom Woodbridge topping the outfield catches with 6. Batting Averages
