Captains summary: St. Mary’s started their second season in RD1NE by losing one of the star players when Shriharsh returned to India this followed last season where getting a team out was regularly problematic. Vignesh also returned to India after two matches which meant that early in the season St. Mary’s lost two of their best players. To add to this the season started badly with defeats at Crown Taverners & Oakley. We then faced match 3 of the season at home to Ropley struggling to get an 11 out. Stevie Reid pulled in a friend James Buckland and an old friend Warren Trask turned up at the last minute. James and Warren both scored 50s in their first innings as St. Mary’s compiled and impressive 217 in 40 overs, followed by bowling Ropley out for 130. The season was underway this was followed by 4 further victories as St. Mary’s settled for an upper mid-table position which they retained for the rest of the season. In all we won 10 out of 16 matches which meant that St. Mary’s managed to finish in their highest league position of all time. It was great to have James Buckland and Tom Green join the club as well as the return of Lakky and our old friend Warren Trask who strengthened the team in scoring 248 runs at an average of 62 and took 14 wickets at an average of 11.00. In addition we were joined by Peter Compton Burnett who became the third member of his family to play in two years. Peter played in 4 matches, missing the middle of the season with a broken foot, and contributed significantly to the team. Mike Richardson was a star of the season, finishing as top wicket taker with 20 wickets, topped the outfield catches with 8 and the run outs with 3. In addition he scored 138 runs at an average of 23 often strengthening the middle order batting. What a fantastic all-round performance. Top scorer for the season was Russell Hawkins who competed closely with James Buckland to win the award by 7 runs over James Buckland and 11 over Warren Trask as Russell scored 259 runs in the season, in addition Russell was top scorer with 81. A great season, with lots of great matches, only one lost all season due to the weather. Already looking forward to next season. Batting Averages
