Batsman of the year: Veeru Pokola
Bowler of the year: Shared by our opening bowlers Nathan Field(26) & Dan Vickery(24) for their combined 50 wickets.
Fielder of the year: Amit Sapkal for his outstanding work in the covers

Captains end of season thoughts: “So the season comes to an end so quickly. A disappointing end to the season with the match abandoned at Fair Oak after 11 overs due to the artificial pitch being too slippery.

Some notables from the season. Our most successful ever in terms of points an average of 19.43 with 10 wins out of 14 matches. Also a strong committed team using only 20 players all season the best previously being 23 in 2009, and with 9 players playing 10 or more matches. A great comeback from a poor start after winning just one of our first four matches which meant we won 9 out of our last 10 matches. The one match lost in the last 10 was the top of the table clash against league champions Compton & Chandlers Ford leaving us in second place in the league, well done chaps.

Some notable highlights, Tom Lee top scoring for the club again as he has for the past four seasons in a row including three 50's and an average of 40. Tom has top scored for St. Mary's in 7 out of the 14 seasons that we have played league cricket. We have also had notable performances from Marc Minikin, who came second in the batting, who has entertained all of us with his opening batting and scoring the one century posted this season. Veeru came third in the batting totals with 321 runs at an average of 46 including 3 50's in a row. Amit Sapkal also impressed with 218 runs at an average of 22 with a top score of 51, There were a number of other good batting performances from the team from Ali Kanjee and Lakky who both scored 50s and Oli who produced some great knocks including the innings that finally clinched victory in the hard fought battle against Hartley Wintney. In addition Amit performed brilliantly in the covers and managed to take 6 catches and a remarkable run-out hitting the stumps with a direct throw from the cover boundary.

We had a number of all round performances, Andy Tucker made two appearances in which he managed to score 115 runs and take 6 wickets in just 5.1 overs. Ian Bentley managed 14 wickets, some good late order runs @ an average of 12 and 9 catches including a spectacular one handed catch at midwicket which counts as one of the seasons highlights. It was great to be joined by an extended member of my family in Nathan Field who brought a higher level of competitiveness to the team, taking the most wickets in 26, most catches 11 (not to mention 3 drops off the skipper - not that I am counting) one of the four run-outs we managed this season and 94 runs @ an average of 16 most scored rapidly at key moments.

Additionally Russell Hawkins made his first appearance for St. Mary's contributing in a key opening partnership of 99 with Tom in the battle against Hartley Whitney and putting in a tidy job keeping. Hopefully we shall see more from him next season.

The bowling was well led by Dan Vickery 24 wickets at an average of 12 in addition to the 26 wickets by Nathan. So our opening pair contributed 50 wickets. But they were ably supported by Veeru, Ian & Ali in the bowling.

But all contributed to the success of the season, Tim returning to his best with the bat, Mike behind the stumps and adding valuable solidity to the batting. It was great to see Dave Ham a face from the past who took two key catches in the win against Hartley Wintney. Thanks to others who also played, our great friend Stuart who always brightens things up, Armit, Raj & Venkat who played key contributions to the team's success.

Last a thanks to Lakky for leading the work to try to improve the quality of the pitches that we have played on, his work has led to a significant improvement in the quality of the pitches that we have played on.

During the season a number of players passed milestones:
* Tom Lee passed 4,000 league runs, finishing the season on 4,127 (it seems like yesterday we were celebrating 3,000).
* Dan Vickery passed 200 league wickets finishing the season on 205 (will he catch up with me soon?)
* Ian Bentley passed 150 league wickets and played his 100th match. Ian is the fourth player to pass 100 matches the others being Tom (133), Tim (135) & Keith (175).

The only sad note is having to say goodbye to Warren Trask who returns to South Africa at the end of the year to take up a place at Bible college. Warren has played such a key part in the team with both bat and ball topping the batting in 2011 with 510 runs at an average of 85. Hopefully we will all get a chance to formally say goodbye to him before he goes.

Thanks to you all for making this season such a success.
Keith Waldock, August 2015”
